Area code update software program for ACT!, GoldMine, TeleMagic, dBASE, FoxPRO and ASCII format delimited files
Tired of calling Contacts from your database, only to find the area code changed? Then you need to have your database's area codes repaired with The Split Wizard! Split Wizard updates area code splits for any text database.
Fax lines and cell phones seemed to fill some
area codes beyond capacity. In 1995, Bellcore instituted the North American
Numbering Plan (NANP) to solve the problem by splitting designated area codes.
Area codes that are full are split into regions
defined by the prefixes (the first three digits of the local phone number) and
are changed to the new area code. For instance, in 1995 nearly four hundred
prefixes in Georgia were changed to area code 770 while the rest of the
prefixes remained 404. At the same time in Washington State, 300 prefixes were
changed to 360 from 206.
Split Wizard works by checking your database phone numbers against
its built-in table which now contains over 100 area code changes involving more
than 20,000 prefixes.
Q. How does Split Wizard
know what phone numbers have been changed?
Area code splits are assigned by telephone
prefix. When the split zone is created, all prefixes within the zone are
assigned the new area code. So, in the case of Downey, California, 310-904-xxxx,
the new phone number would be 562-904-xxxx because all phone numbers with
the 904 prefix will use the new area code.
Split Wizard looks for every split since
NANP went into effect January 1, 1995. However, in many cases of older
splits, phone numbers have been reassigned. To decide whether a number
should be changed or not, Split Wizard looks at the start date of the record.
If the start date preceedes the split, then the record will be updated.
Otherwise, you are prompted to see if the record might have been imported
from an older list or another database. In any case, all splits since 1995
are covered, and you have control over how to handle the rare case where
a telephone number might be reassigned.
They stopped changing area codes in approximately 2003. So if you have an older database, this works perfect, but only needs a one time update.
